Lorsque la belle Nadia, bien décidée à se soustraire à l’autorité parentale, quitte le foyer familial avec sa sœur, elle ne peut anticiper le bourbier dans lequel elle va progressivement s’enfoncer. Une fois revenue au Québec, Nadia est surprise de voir son bel adonis rappliquer, cette fois-ci pour le jeu de la grande séduction, qui réussira à merveille.
De retour à Cuba en sa compagnie, la jeune femme tombera de haut lorsqu’elle comprendra qu’elle a foncé tête première dans le filet d’un prédateur qui savait très bien ce qu’il faisait. Son amour pour ce bel inconnu lui coûtera presque la vie, lorsque commencera sa réclusion axée sur la violence et le contrôle. Nadia valse alors avec la mort; séquestration, chantage, menaces, violences répétées et humiliations de toutes sortes font dorénavant partie de son quotidien. Obligée même de devenir contrebandière pour sauver sa peau, elle réussira toutefois à se sortir du pétrin après maints efforts et à reprendre une vie « normale » au Québec.
Forte de cette expérience traumatisante, Nadia Émond, en écrivant ce livre, veut ainsi aider les femmes violentées ou vivant des situations difficiles, qui croient souvent ne pas avoir d’échappatoire. Madame Émond entend ainsi leur faire réaliser que parfois, la vie n’est pas toujours facile, mais qu’il est toujours possible de s’en sortir et de refaire sa vie.

When young and beautiful Nadia decides to break free from parental authority and leaves home with her sister, she is completely unaware of the predicament she is walking into. Faced with no other options but to work in a restaurant and then a topless club, Nadia quickly realizes just how destructive, and even downright dangerous, those degrading places are for her. The young woman leaves the country for a two-week vacation in Cuba with her younger sister where a man named Ricardo quickly singles her out and approaches her. Nadia cannot resist falling under the spell of this charming, smooth-talking man who exudes both power and wealth. After returning to Quebec, she is surprised when her handsome Adonis shows up again, this time going for the great seduction – and succeeds wonderfully.
Back in Cuba with Ricardo, the young woman is quickly disillusioned upon realizing she has stepped into the trap of a predator who knew exactly what he was doing. Her love for this handsome stranger will lead to a life of confinement, violence and control – a love that will almost cost her her life. Nadia will dance with death; confinement, blackmail, threats, repeated violence and humiliation become part of her day-to-day reality. She will even smuggle goods to save her life, but somehow she will manage, with great difficulty, to escape her awful predicament and resume a ‘normal’ life in
Quebec.
Nadia Émond came out strong from this traumatic experience and, with her book, wants to help other women who are victims of violence or who are caught in difficult situations and think there is no way out. Ms. Émond hopes to help them realize that, although it is not always easy, there is definitely a way out which will lead to a new and better life.
