Description

Angelina: The Touch of Life

1878. Angelina, a young and attractive redhead with lovely violet eyes has but one ambition: to become a midwife just like her recently deceased mother. Originally from Saint-Lizier, a fortified old city nestled at the foot of the Pyrenees mountains, this shoemaker’s daughter must secretly give birth to a child she conceived with the first love of her life. This man’s unexpected departure catches Angelina off guard and she is faced with no other choice but to reluctantly leave her son Henri in the care of a nanny. Aided by the elderly Gersande de Besnac, Angelina enrols as a student at the Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Jacques de Toulouse hospital – an indispensable step towards fulfilling her dream to become a midwife.

In this reputed hospital, Angelina meets an obstetrician, Dr. Philippe Coste, who desperately wants to marry her; encouraged by her benefactress, Angelina accepts. However, life is never simple. Two young women from Angelina’s circle of friends are murdered. A street entertainer is quickly accused of these horrific crimes. And through it all, Angelina does not find it easy integrating into her new family. The young midwife eventually realizes that high society and wealth is not the life for her and she chooses to regain her freedom and return to her hometown where she will become a local midwife.

The first volume in a new series, Angelina: The Touch of Life sends the reader into a rich and vivid world that author Marie-Bernadette Dupuy excels in creating. Ms. Dupuy has successfully carved her own niche with her novels and is now read throughout the world.
